Meta Connect 2025: New smart glasses that are revolutionizing the wearable concept

What happened yesterday at Meta Connect 2025?

Yesterday saw Meta Connect 2025 , Meta's big event led by Mark Zuckerberg, where the company unveiled new features that promise to change how we interact with technology. One of the main focuses was the unveiling of new smart glasses with AI and integrated displays , along with accessories that allow gesture control.

Meta Ray-Ban Display : The New in Smart Glasses

Design and main functions

  • Ray-Ban glasses with a head-up display (HUD) on the right lens that allow you to display notifications, calls, translations, and navigation without taking out your phone.

  • They include a neural wristband that detects gestures using electrical impulses in the wrist (sEMG technology). This allows you to control functions without touching buttons.

  • Estimated battery life of up to ~6 hours of continuous use with the screen on, plus what the case or other accessories provide.

Price and release date

  • Approximate price: US$ 799 for the model with screen.

  • Available in the US starting September 30, 2025 .

Oakley Meta Vanguard

  • Meta also introduced the Oakley Meta Vanguard sports glasses, aimed at those who practice sports or outdoor activities.

  • These glasses offer water resistance, an action camera, integration with fitness apps like Garmin or Strava, and a battery life of about 9 hours .

  • Estimated price: US$499 , with launch starting in mid/late October 2025.

Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 and minor improvements

  • New versions of the current Ray-Ban Meta were introduced, with improvements in style, camera, AI features, increased comfort, and more.

  • Also new features like “Conversation Focus” to improve the clarity of real-life conversations, which helps if you wear the glasses in noisy environments.

The good, the worrying… and what we expected to see

Highlighted Advantages

  • Real innovation: Integrated AI + gesture control = less mobile dependency.

  • A more lifestyle design, with a classic Ray-Ban/Oakley aesthetic, less “futuristic gadget,” which could encourage adoption.

  • Useful features: real-time translation, viewing without taking out your phone, and instant contextual information.

What could still be improved

  • Actual battery life: 6 hours may not be enough if you use it all day.

  • High price for many users; it won't be affordable for everyone at first.

  • Privacy and Regulation: With built-in cameras and microphones, there are always questions about how data, notifications, and permissions are handled.

What was left in doubt

  • Live demos with technical issues: Some of the demos shown at Meta Connect had connectivity or performance issues.

  • See what real-life daily use will be like: comfort, weight, visibility in sunlight, compatibility with prescription glasses, etc.

Meta Connect 2025 showed that the smartglasses industry is entering a new phase: more integrated, with AI, gesture control, and non-intimidating designs.
